The Wild Rose Power Hub is being advanced through a developer-led Area Structure Plan (ASP). An ASP is a statutory document approved by Council and adopted by Bylaw. It serves as a decision-making tool that guides growth and helps staff and Council evaluate land use changes, subdivision, and development proposals. The ASP explains future land use, as well as transportation, environmental protection, emergency services, general design, and utility service requirements. By utilizing a developer-led ASP, we ensure that infrastructure and land use considerations are addressed comprehensively before development begins
A hyperscale data center is a large-scale facility designed to house the critical computing hardware required to power modern digital services. Unlike traditional server rooms, these facilities are built to manage the large data processing and storage needs of global cloud platforms and artificial intelligence applications. In simple terms, it acts as a highly efficient digital warehouse that stores and processes the information we use every day, serving as a vital piece of infrastructure for Alberta’s growing technology sector.
The Wild Rose Power Hub is a data center only project. Power provided to the development will be supplied through the Alberta electrical system using the sub-station located directly north of the Plan Area.
Fueling High-Tech Careers: The Wild Rose Power Hub is projected to be a major economic driver for Rocky View County. At full build-out, the project is estimated to support between 975 - 2,100 construction jobs and 200 - 300 continuous operations jobs. These roles will range from management of high-tech computer systems to networking and infrastructure storage. Beyond direct site work, the influx of professionals is expected to bring roughly 6,090 new residents to the County, stimulating local businesses and the housing market.
A Catalyst for the Future: As a hyperscale-level data center, this project positions Rocky View County as a leader in Alberta’s burgeoning AI and technology sector. The hub will house the essential digital infrastructure needed to manage and process the data of the future. By establishing this "Power Hub" component, the project acts as a catalyst, attracting further investment from global technology firms and fostering a local ecosystem of innovation and skilled labor.
Sustainable & Essential Growth: Designed to integrate seamlessly with existing utilities, the Wild Rose Power Hub will leverage adjacent high-voltage transmission lines to power its operations. The project includes developer-provided off-site utility servicing, on-site stormwater retention, and closed-loop cooling systems to minimize impacts on the local watershed. Crucially, the project is a "net positive" for the community: it significantly grows the non-residential tax base, which is projected to lower municipal mill rates by approximately 5% for all County residents.
